Exemplification Thesis:
Each year more parents are choosing to home-school their children rather than traditional public school in the hopes their children benefit from an individualized education program.

Ideas, points to develop:
-Homeschooling is an option for parents who might not identify with the academic culture of the place they live in.

-The levels of education have being damaged these last years by policies like "No child left behind".  Home school can be seen as an option to educate your kids to their full capacities.

-We live in a time of deep social changes with issues such as gay and transgender rights. Some parents decide to home school based on religious beliefs.

-Social media has given new options for socializing and meeting with other home schooled kids. Isolation is not a factor to consider anymore.

-Search engines and all the tools that you find online make it very accessible for parents to create a high customized plan for their kids.

Partnered Outline - Lucas Calderon

Thesis: One of the biggest problems with the most dangerous consequences African park rangers face today is an absence of tactical and medical training. They are often put in the field with little to no knowledge of small unit tactics and in most cases completely lack any first aid or field medical skills. For instance four rangers were killed when they and other rangers failed to set up an effective ambush on a group of poachers in Kenya, 2012.

  First Aid
-       Examples of what type of first aid would be beneficial.
-       Examples of how not knowing these skills is detrimental.
-       Suggest a plan: teaching basic medical training to the rangers but also having a trained medic in each squad.
Strategies
-       Examples of how knowing strategies can be more efficient and safe compared to going into battle “blind”.
-       According to a google search that I did, there are three basic types for squad strategies: classical, balanced, and combined. Knowing these different strategies will allow the rangers to approach a situation in a correct manner.
Personal Experience
-       Talk about your personal experience over in Africa. Write about what you witnessed, observed and your personal opinion on the situation. Give examples of where you would make changes.
Compare and Contrast
-       Compare similar situations to the ones going on in Africa and explain different techniques that they implemented that were successful and how those same techniques could be applied to the rangers to help them to be successful.

Kristen's outline: exemplification essay

Introduction: Grabber, information, and thesis should be included.
Thesis: Alice in Wonderland has been connected to drugs fro years and while there is some evidence to that it seems to be based on emotions instead.
Body Paragraphs: You might want to talk about individual drugs and it's possible connection to Alice in Wonderland. You can also talk about how the book/movie (Alice in Wonderland in general) has changed with all the drug connections.
Conclusion: Add a counterargument, tie everything together and restate your thesis.

Eugenia's Thesis Outline

Original Thesis:

"Political campaigns are more about the mediation circus than about the essence of the candidates or the solutions offered to the country's problems."

My Points:

#1: Politicians avoid answers and instead twist questions back towards what makes them look good. Evasive.
#2: Surround themselves with only their supporters so they look more supported. Deceitful.
#3: Verbally attack those who are against them. Dramatic.

My Conclusion:

Politics are more of a popularity contest than about the issues and well-being of the country.

Logical Fallacy #1

Jumping to a Conclusion:

Jumping to a conclusion is when someone comes up with a generalization and states it factually without adequate evidence to do so.

How to avoid it:

Make sure you have all the information you need. Don't make assumptions without having credible facts to back them up.

Thesis Statement: Exemplification Essay

Topic:

The ways that Alice in Wonderland characters represent emotions, not drug use.

Thesis:

"Alice in Wonderland has been connected to drugs for years. While there is some evidence to that, the stories actually appear to be based more on a little girl dealing with emotions manifested in the form of various characters."

Exemplification Thesis

Idea:
-       The negative impact of the welfare program.

Thesis: According to the American government, the purpose of the welfare program is to prevent American citizens from living in a state of poverty and to help the unemployed find long term work. For most, the purpose of this program is being utilized for its intended purpose, but for others, the program is being taken advantage of resulting in detrimental effects on tax payers, the welfare recipient and the children of these welfare homes.

Thesis: exemplification essay (rough)

Topic: Homeschooling
Thesis possibilities:
1. Each year, more parents are choosing to homeschool their children rather than traditional public school, in the hopes their children benefit from an individualized education program.

2. Each year more and more parents are choosing to homeschool their children rather than traditional public school. The motivating factors for why parents are turning to homeschooling can vary person to person whether it is associated with religious beliefs and or information quality. It could even be due to the parents desire for their child to get a more individualized education.
(info might change once I do more research).
